What \u201cRace\u201d Really Means<\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1680\" data-end=\"1769\">The modern concept of \u201crace\u201d is relatively recent (last few hundred years). Historically:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"1871\">\n<li data-start=\"1771\" data-end=\"1824\">\n<p data-start=\"1773\" data-end=\"1824\">People identified by <strong data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"1824\">tribe, language, or nation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1825\" data-end=\"1871\">\n<p data-start=\"1827\" data-end=\"1871\">Not by skin color categories as we use today<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"2024\">Genetically, differences between so-called races are extremely small. There is often more genetic variation <strong data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"1991\">within<\/strong> a group than <strong data-start=\"2005\" data-end=\"2016\">between<\/strong> groups.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2071\"><span style=\"font-family: Roboto; font-size: 20px;\">4. Rome was multi-ethnic.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1646\" data-end=\"1661\">Also important:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1663\" data-end=\"1779\">Ancient statues look white today because the paint wore off. They were originally painted with realistic skin tones.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1781\" data-end=\"1898\">So when we picture Romans as pale northern Europeans \u2014 that image comes from later European art, not ancient reality.<\/p>\n<h1 data-start=\"1905\" data-end=\"1927\"><span style=\"font-family: Roboto; font-size: 20px;\">8. A Simple Summary<\/span><\/h1>\n<ul data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"2103\">\n<li data-start=\"1929\" data-end=\"1978\">\n<p data-start=\"1931\" data-end=\"1978\">Original humans: dark brown (equatorial origin)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1979\" data-end=\"2024\">\n<p data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2024\">Lighter skin: adaptation in low-sun regions<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"2025\" data-end=\"2103\">\n<p data-start=\"2027\" data-end=\"2103\">Romans: mostly Mediterranean olive to light brown, diverse across the empire<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2253\">Modern racial categories are very recent. The ancient world thought in terms of tribe, language, and region \u2014 not \u201cwhite\/black\u201d the way we do today.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2253\"><span style=\"font-size: 20px;\"><strong>9.What Did Jesus Christ look like historically?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2105\" data-end=\"2253\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-52661\" src=\"http:\/\/onlinefellowship.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/Screen-Shot-2026-02-25-at-4.09.03-PM-300x260.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"260\" \/><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"176\" data-end=\"240\">Jesus was a 1st-century Jewish man from Galilee, in Roman Judea.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"242\" data-end=\"280\">That gives us strong historical clues.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"287\" data-end=\"311\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Roboto; font-size: 20px;\">Jesus Ethnic Background<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"313\" data-end=\"397\">Jesus was a Jew, born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth, in the region of Galilee.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"399\" data-end=\"480\">That places Him among Middle Eastern Semitic people of the eastern Mediterranean.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"482\" data-end=\"512\">He would not have looked like:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"599\">\n<li data-start=\"513\" data-end=\"539\">\n<p data-start=\"515\" data-end=\"539\">A pale northern European<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"566\">\n<p data-start=\"542\" data-end=\"566\">A blue-eyed Scandinavian<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"567\" data-end=\"599\">\n<p data-start=\"569\" data-end=\"599\">A Renaissance Italian painting<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"653\"><strong>Those images came much later in European church art.**<br \/>\n*<em>* Art was technically The Media of Those Ancient Days..like modern media spreads impressions, ideas, representations today<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"660\" data-end=\"691\"><span style=\"font-family: Roboto; font-size: 20px;\">Jesus Likely Physical Features<\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"779\">Based on archaeology, skeletal remains, and population studies of 1st-century Judeans:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"781\" data-end=\"803\">Jesus most likely had:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"1058\">\n<li data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"834\">\n<p data-start=\"807\" data-end=\"834\">Olive to light brown skin<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"835\" data-end=\"854\">\n<p data-start=\"837\" data-end=\"854\">Dark brown eyes<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"855\" data-end=\"883\">\n<p data-start=\"857\" data-end=\"883\">Dark brown to black hair<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"884\" data-end=\"955\">\n<p data-start=\"886\" data-end=\"955\">Short, curly or wavy hair (not long flowing hair in most paintings)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"956\" data-end=\"1009\">\n<p data-start=\"958\" data-end=\"1009\">A trimmed beard (Jewish men commonly wore beards)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1058\">\n<p data-start=\"1012\" data-end=\"1058\">Average height for the time: about 5&#8217;1&#8243;\u20135&#8217;5&#8243;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1060\" data-end=\"1165\">He would have looked like a typical Jewish man from the region \u2014 not especially tall, not unusually fair.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1172\" data-end=\"1203\"><span style=\"font-family: Roboto; font-size: 20px;\">9. What Does the Bible Say?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"1205\" data-end=\"1267\">Interestingly, Scripture gives almost no physical description.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1323\">In <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Isaiah<\/span><\/span> 53:2 it says:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1269\" data-end=\"1323\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.125rem;\">\u201cHe hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1435\" data-end=\"1449\">This suggests:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1450\" data-end=\"1574\">\n<li data-start=\"1450\" data-end=\"1508\">\n<p data-start=\"1452\" data-end=\"1508\">He did not stand out by unusual physical attractiveness.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1509\" data-end=\"1574\">\n<p data-start=\"1511\" data-end=\"1574\">Nothing about His appearance would have made crowds follow Him.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1576\" data-end=\"1645\">The focus was never His outward form, but His authority and presence.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"1652\" data-end=\"1690\"><strong><span style=\"font-family: Roboto; font-size: 20px;\">10.
